How Did I Do It?

I've had a few people ask me about my webpage cover photo, one of my favorites and my most popular image. The image looks simple, but was deceivingly complicated.

The Final Image:

Canon 5DMk3 16mm ISO 100 1/400sec f8 With Norman 200w battery operated strobe

What it actually looked like:

Behind the Scenese Story:

I was helping a photographer friend of mine at his home studio in Lino Lakes and on a stretch/smoke break I noticed The Tub!! Thanks to the melting snow his wetland was overflowing and I had one of those photo moments where I HAD TO SHOOT HERE! Luckily my beautiful model friend Raych was available to drive up there on a chilly Saturday morning.

For the shot we had to walk out into quite cold water to get to the tub. I was using a battery operated strobe which I had protected in a big tupperware bin with a weight in it, and had the lightstand up against a tree. The light brightens up the model, and helps with the saturated color. I was crouching in the water to get that really low look, but also had quite a wet butt when the shoot was done :)

It was a bit of work, but so much fun and so rewarding. I get so many compliments on this image, and I wanted to share just how much thought, work, love and excitement went into it.

Surreal Garden 2

Another fun and amazing lighting test in the garden with Allie. So excited, what color should I do next??
